Design has always been a part of my life in one form
or another. As a child I always saw my parents
“creating” something from nothing. I’ll never forget my
mother making polyester Barbie clothes and matching
Christmas dresses for my sisters and me, or how she
always made every birthday cake from scratch with
whatever we wanted on it…I don’t know how she made those
perfect roses out of icing! I also remember my father’s
“McGuyver –like” ability to fix all my toys with a
paperclip and superglue.
In college I pursued a degree in Apparel
Design,
which I received in 1995, afterward I began designing and
creating wedding and bridesmaid gowns. I quickly learned that my
market wasn’t ready (and neither was I) for couture gowns that
required hours of hand beading! From there my career in sales
and retail merchandising began, but I wanted something more. I
returned to college, this time in Interior Design and
Architecture.
Eventually I worked as a banker, kitchen
designer, sales rep., and furniture showroom designer before
finding Redesign and Staging. At last I had found my calling and
Design Overhaul was born!
I am so excited about this new concept of
design,
I always knew you could create a beautiful room without starting
over (I had done it many times) I just didn’t know I could make
it a career!
By far, the best part of any design is the
final product and seeing a tangible result from all your
hard work. Even better is the design you do for another person.
To share with them the joy and amazement of what you’ve been
able to create is beyond words! I can’t believe this is my job!
On Monday and Tuesday you will still find me
at the Ashley Furniture Homestore on Hwy.14 in Lake Charles.
I have stayed on as their Showroom Decorator, and will be
conducting decorating seminars at that location in the near
